These last 30 days+ I have focused on personal Solitude, I have realized how disciplined one must be... to be quiet.
One of my passages I have been reading and re-reading explains 'without solitude it is virtually impossible to live a spiritual life.' I ponder these words often.
In my coaching practice I ask my clients to meditate, pray or to sit quietly and focus on deep breathing. This, I have to say, is one of the most challenging tasks women share with me. It's much easier to hear what to eat, exercises to do, books to read, or quotes to reflect on but....to sit quietly and just be? Its uncomfortable, apprehension builds up and as soon as we are alone, without people to talk with, books to read, TV to watch, or phone calls to make, an inner chaos opens up in us. This is when I personally want to busy myself with tasks or go to sleep; others may choose to eat, fill that void with food or exercise.
To sit quietly and think, to be alone with our thoughts, feelings is difficult but can be accomplished and deepening of our spiritual being occurs little by little. Connecting our body, mind and soul.
This month if you would like, challenge yourself to sit quietly every day for a few minutes with no agenda and just be! Check into how your respond and still choose to be in quiet solitude.

National Nutrition Month…Looking Beyond What You Should Eat
This month, during National Nutrition Month, rather than repeat to you the nutritional tips I know you already know, I want to share with you a contradiction in your body that, I hope, will be a catalyst in moving you into action, a catalyst that increase your awareness and support you in making choices that honor and protect your body well. So let’s start by looking beyond what you should eat and instead, begin to understand what you do eat and how that is affecting your health. 
INFLAMMATION
Inflammation is a normal and often time beneficial process that you probably are familiar with. Who hasn’t cut their finger or sprained their ankle? What happens? Inflammation! Here, inflammation is good; it keeps you safe and fights off foreign invaders such as bacteria and viruses.
However, inflammation can also be critical to your health and well being and most of us don’t think much about it. But CHRONIC INTERNAL INFLAMMATION caused by more subtle forms of trauma INSIDE the body-can undermine your health. Jay Challem author of ‘The inflammation Syndrome: Your Nutrition Plan for Great Health, Weight Loss and Pain-Free Living’ mentions:
“Every disease process-Cancer, Heart disease, Type II diabetes, Alzheimers’s and Auto Immune disease involve internal inflammation as a cause, a symptom or both.”
A few signs you could be inflamed:
- Are obese or overweight: Fat cells themselves promote inflammation which leads to more fat cells which lead to more inflammation.
- Simply eating too many calories at once – more than 500 calories in a sitting – can create inflammation and fat storage.
- Get little or no exercise
- Have environmental and/or food allergies
- Have long term chronic infections (like viruses, bacteria, yeasts, or parasites) and/or gum disease
- Live with chronic stress
- Are exposed to toxins such as mercury and pesticides as well as molds in air and environment
- Main culprit is heavily processed food loaded with chemical preservatives!
The good news is that chronic inflammation can be EASILY reversed by adjusting your diet and your lifestyle.
Douse the flame by:
- Eating a healthy diet filled with whole, unprocessed foods and plenty of phytonutrients (think COLORFUL fruits and vegetables and even cocoa (yippee)
- Eating healthy fats in the form of olive oil, nuts and avocadoes, and getting more omega-3 fats from small fish like sardines, herring, sable, and wild salmon.
- Exercising regularly
- Quitting smoking and avoiding second hand smoke
- Getting to and staying at your healthiest weight
- Managing your stress by learning techniques to relax the vegus nerve
- Finding out if you have food allergies and eliminating those foods Healing your gut by taking probiotics and/or digestive enzymes
- Supplementing with a daily multi-vitamin, omega-3 oils and Vitamin D (which also help reduce inflammation)
Cool down the inflammatory fire that burns within you and regain the strong, healthy body you were intended to have by introducing these anti-inflammatory strategies to your life.
